Likoma Island Festival Receives K10 Million Grant from Copyright Fund for 2026 Preparations

Likoma, February 27, 2026 – The Likoma Island Festival (LIFE) has received a boost ahead of its 2026 edition, with the Copyright Fund awarding the festival K10 million to support preparations for the event scheduled for October 15–18.

Festival Director Patrick Ulele Chikoti told reporters on Friday that the grant, issued on Thursday in Lilongwe, will be used to fund early marketing campaigns and organise pre-event activities ahead of the main festival.

Chikoti said the funding would ensure that preparations are carried out in a timely and organised manner. “The resources will help lay a strong foundation for the event, ensuring that preparations are done in good time. The last event was held in 2024, while 2025 was set aside to allow for electoral processes and to avoid a clash of programmes,” he explained.

He added that the festival is expected to boost tourism-related investment and position Likoma Island as a key destination within Malawi’s growing tourism sector. Chikoti also assured the public that the funds would be used for their intended purpose.

During the same ceremony at Crossroads Hotel in Lilongwe, the Copyright Fund also awarded grants to various artists and institutions, including musician Angel Mbekeani (Sangie) and Love FM.
