Member of Parliament for Likoma Islands and Deputy Minister of Health and Sanitation, Charles Chilambula, has injected K12 million into this year’s Likoma Island Festival (LIFE), giving a major boost to the cultural event.
Speaking during a LIFE press briefing in Lilongwe, Festival Director Patrick Chikoti commended Chilambula’s contribution alongside support from other partners, including the Copyright Fund.
Now in its sixth edition since its inception in 2014, the festival is geared towards marketing and positioning Likoma as a prime tourism destination, offering a rich blend of arts and cultural experiences.
Chikoti further highlighted that the initiative is also championing environmental sustainability, with a target to make Likoma and Chizumulu islands free from thin plastic pollution by 2030.
The 2026 edition of the festival is scheduled to run from October 15 to 18 under the theme: “Life in Tourism, Arts and Culture.”
