The organisers of the Likoma Island Festival have confirmed that the 2026 edition will run from October 15 to 18 on Likoma Island, with a series of pre-event activities scheduled to begin as early as April both on and off the island.
Festival Director Patrick Ulele Chikoti said preparations are already in progress, with the theme for this year announced as “Life in Tourism, Arts and Culture.” He noted that key stakeholders have been engaged as part of the planning process.
According to Chikoti, the festival is expected to play a significant role in boosting tourism and stimulating the local economy, while also encouraging meaningful social and cultural exchange between residents and visitors.
He added that the event will provide a platform for cultural celebration, create short-term income opportunities for local businesses, and open up networking avenues for participants. Environmental conservation messages will also be integrated into the festival’s activities.
Chikoti further highlighted the benefits for young people, saying the festival will offer them opportunities to showcase their talents, gain international exposure, and receive training in conservation efforts.
The 2026 edition, he said, is being positioned as a transformative milestone aimed at establishing the Likoma Island Festival as a sustainable, year-round initiative.
